Cyrus Khambatta

Cyrus Khambatta is the Artistic Director for Phffft! Dance Theatre Company. His works fusing Contemporary/Modern dance and Contact Improvisation have been presented in twelve US states, throughout Europe as well as in Russia and Latin America by Phffft!, Ririe Woodbury Dance (Salt Lake City), Pisorojo (Caracas), Evergreen Ballet (WA), Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater (Seattle) and others.

His work with his company has been presented by festivals and venues including The Spoleto Festival USA (SC) The Innovators Series (VA), The Center for Art and Research of Mont. St. Aignan (Rouen, France) The Aula Magna at The Central University of Venezuela, The National Choreographic Center of Tours, France, as well as Seattle Symphony’s Benaroya Hall, Maydenbauer Theatre and On the Boards in Seattle. He has received the support of numerous foundations including The Harkness Foundation, The Florence Gould Foundation, Bossak Heilbron Charitble Trust, Meet the Composer, King County’s 4Culture, and the Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs among others. In 2003, his choreographic work received California’s Daman New Choreography Award and in 2004 he was chosen with nine other prominent artists from the Pacific Northwest for The National Dance Project/New England Foundation for the Arts Regional Dance Development Initiative.

He has lectured and taught at numerous universities in the U.S as well as at institutions such as the Canal Danse, the Contemporary Dance Theater (TCD), and Projet D’ici in Paris and at the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation in NYC. In Seattle, he has taught at Cornish College, University of Washington, Western Washington University, Seattle Theatre Group’s Dance This, Velocity Dance Center and Freehold Studio Theatre.
