The Magpie Improvisation summer course is an intensive study of improvisation in music, dance and performance. The course is held in the summer at the studio seven in Amsterdam with Katie Duck (performance/body), Alfredo Genovesi (music) and Miri Lee (performer/admin). They provide a five-week workshop, tutorials and rehearsal space. Alongside the the five-week workshop by Katie and Alfredo, open classes and performances are held through out the course period led by local and visiting artists and course participants.

Schedule:

Workshop with Katie & Alfredo: 13:00-17:00 Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Tutorials: 13:00-17:00 Tuesday.

Open classes: 10:00-12:00 and 18:00-20:00 Monday, Wednesday & Sunday.

Weekend performances: 20:00 Friday and Saturday.

Rehearsal space: 10:00-12:30 and 18:00-24:00 Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday (depending on the open class schedule).

Free day: Thursday.


Costs:

Katie & Alfredo’s Workshop (€500).

Included only for students who commit to the full five week course:

-access to rehearsal space.

-tutorials.

-option to propose performances for the weekends.

-a concession fee for the open classes (€5 per class).

-reduced price for the orgelpark collective workshop (Held the week directly after the summer course in Amsterdam. Normal fee €150/reduced fee €100).

The course accepts 10 dancers and 4 musicians (from all backgrounds and experience) for the five week

Apply & Payment:

Once you have received an email from Katie accepting you on the five week course you will receive an

invitation from Stichiting Magpie. You will then need to place a €100 (non refundable) deposit into our

accounts via internet banking to reserve your place.


You can complete the remaining payment in cash on arrival for the course, however please email Katie and

let her know of your payment plans.

Day to day/week to week basis:

Students can join the workshop with Katie and Alfredo on a day to day/week to week basis (excluding the options listed above and not in the fifth week August 13-19). Open classes are available to anyone who wishes to attend:

-Katie & Alfredo’s Workshop: €40 per day/€ 120 per week.

-open classes: (duration two and three hours sessions) €5 per hour.


Apply & Payment:

If you want to do the workshop on a day to day/week to week basis you do not need to register with Katie. However, you do need to send an email to Katie to confirm your place for the days or weeks you wish to

attend.


The open classes are drop in. You pay the teacher on arrival. A schedule for the open classes will be made available on this site by July 12, 2012.
