Sylvain Meret


















Sylvain Meret - Born in 1971 in France, Sylvain first began his education in visual art. He obtained a Bachelor of Visual Art at Bordeaux University together with the national diploma for visual art, DNAP/DNSEP  from the Bordeaux’s fine art school focusing on the theme body/ movements/ representation. At this time he became involved in contemporary dance with choreographers J.F. Duroure and Mari Siles. At the end of his studies, he was accepted at P.A.R.T.S (Brussels), school directed by Anne Theresa de Keersmaecker and studied with teachers such as Lance Gries, David Hernandez, Elizabeth Corbett, Randy Warshaw, and Simon de Mowbray (among others). He studied as well repertory from Trisha Brown, William Forsyth, Pina Bausch, A.T de Keersmaecker. Then he re located to Paris where he developed and deepened his artistic abilities in dance and performance with Jose Cazeneuve, Peter Goss, Vera Mantero, Thierry Bae, Patricia Kuypers Meredith Monk, Katie Duck.


He furthered his dance education in seminars for body technique such as B.M.C., Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Qi Qong. Reiki and Shamanic studies. Between 1998 and 2002, he performed in choreographies by Christiane Blaise, Virginie Mirbeau, Felix Rucker, Arnold Pasquier, Company B.Valiente,  Martin Sonderkamp, Rachel Mateis, Jean Luc Terrade…. These productions toured in France, Belgium, Norway ,Holland, Poland, Denmark… In 2001 he became a member of the Magpie Music Dance Company.


Alongside his work with Magpie he has continued to work as a freelance dance artist with companies in France and Europe; lately with opera director Sandrine Anglade/Pascaline Verrier (la fabula di orfeo) , Dylan Newcomb and Sjoerd Vreugdenhil (the Netherlands) in 2008.
