Magpie Umbrella Apprentice Program
The aim of the Magpie Umbrella apprentice program is to allow for young professionals who are interested in experimental dance or music to integrate their work in a practical manner within studio sessions, workshops, rehearsals and performance.
Magpie Music Dance Company integrated apprentices as part of their education wing under the direction of Katie Duck since 2000. With the change over to an Umbrella organization, apprentices are placed within the local Amsterdam projects in June - Music Dance 301 / Wonderland / Saturday sessions / Thursday sessions and July to August the Summer intensive workshop series. Performance projects are held at the Muiderpoort theater and the OT301. The workshops are held at the studio seven and the orgelpark.
Magpie Umbrella cannot help with housing for the period of the apprentice program in Amsterdam. The artist needs to find options for this within funding application and be aware that housing in Amsterdam is difficult and needs to be worked out in advance. Magpie Umbrella can send an invitation to apprentice artists so that they can apply for funding.The fee for the entire apprentice program is 400 Euros.
In order to apply for the Magpie apprentice program you need to go to Katie Duck. Katie can accept up to 10 apprentices for their summer program. She will need to see your CV and receive a letter of motivation. If accepted in this program you will receive an official invitation for you to then use to apply for your funding.
The magpie apprentice program has included young artists from Spain, Greece, the USA, Austria, Australia, Korea and New Zealand. Each of these artists are either pursuing their professional careers as experimental dance or music artists. Each have been influenced by their apprentice period with Magpie and in turn the Magpie Umbrella organization has shifted according to their very keen insight into contemporary trends for experimental live art work.
