Duck projects 2009-10 - Film, music and performance under the direction of Katie Duck.

Produced by Magpie Umbrella Company + Honsinger Improvisations VOF

Katie Duck has worked as a performer, dancer, choreographer, soloist, in collaboration with musicians and composers and has lead two companies; Groupo (Italy based 1979-85) and Magpie (Netherlands based 1995-2005). For Groupo she created pre-set one-hour productions with contemporary themes using objects, movement and text creating her own sound scores and lighting designs. For Magpie she selected dancers, musicians and a light designer and then lead them in rehearsal toward live performances without pre-set time scores. Her aim with Groupo was to show work that expressed a theme yet seemed improvised by the performers. Her aim with Magpie was to invite dancers and musicians to express a party-like atmosphere with no pre-set materials making it seem as if it could be composed and choreographed.

Over the past 30 years as a performer and maker, Katie has guided public’s toward a live theater event by playing with what is set or not set in time by the performer.

In Duck Performances projects 2009-10 Katie has elected performers whom she has worked with over several years within the Magpie collective in combination with film, light design and music. The film maker delegates a theme for each project. The theater lighting is designed uniquely for each playing space. The musician plays live electronic scores placed in relationship to the film and live action by the performers. In each project the the focus is on the performers ability to extend themes in movement, text and choreography and to offer their emotions without restraint. In duck projects 2009-10, Katie aims to touch the public using tactile themes in a visual/sound landscape. The performers catch the moment and remind us that the theater is a live and vital place for us to gather and feel.

Bummer Holiday (first performance -  Warsaw, Poland October 2008)

The film is a fantasy-like trip to an island in the south of France. The taste of oysters, the sun setting on the sea and the feeling of being away from the city and the pressure of everyday life. The live players indulge their senses in movement and choreography with an urgency to transform the theater space - to escape!

Video used in the performance is one hour non stop with suspended images - (reduced here to 5 minutes)
