Sharon is a performance maker and a performer and sometimesI teacher and a writer. She lived in Berlin, and now Devon England. She is a feminist. For Sharon, words serve to mask what it is I am trying to say. And because/in spite of this, I write.
Sharon Smith is a British performance artist and a core member of the Gob Squad Arts Collective, a British-German group known for blending elements of theater, video installation, and interactive performance. She joined Gob Squad in 2007 and has since been integral to their innovative projects.
Before her involvement with Gob Squad, Sharon co-founded Max Factory, a UK-based collaborative performance project with Felicity Croydon. Max Factory’s work explored the intersections of visual arts, performance, and theater, often focusing on themes related to the female body and identity within contemporary culture.
In addition to her performance career, Sharon is an academic. She holds a PhD in Live Performance Practice and serves as a senior lecturer in Performing Arts at Plymouth Marjon University in the UK. Her academic work complements her artistic practice, emphasising improvisation and the dynamics of live events.
Sharon has also collaborated with Katie Duck in Amsterdam, participating in an improvised performance collective that underscores her commitment to experimental and collaborative art forms.
Through her multifaceted career, Sharon Smith continues to contribute significantly to contemporary performance art, both as a practitioner and educator
