The MAGPIE Improvisation Summer Course 2014
Katie Duck (performance/body) and Alfredo Genovesi (performance/music) lead a workshop Monday to Friday, four hours per day in improvisation for musicians, dancers and performers. On the Friday and Saturday evenings they provide a schedule of Freakatoni witchy weekend performance formats with local/visiting artists in Amsterdam and the course group. The course schedule also includes tutorials, rehearsal space and movement classes held by Manuela Tessi, Melvin Fraenk and Miri Lee on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Artists who do workshops can have these lead toward Freakatoni weekend performances.
You do not have to attend the entire four week course to participate. You can attend Katie and Alfredo’s workshop on a daily or weekly basis. Students who are doing the full four week course do have priority for reserving rehearsal space, for taking slots to perform in the Freakatoni witchy weekends and tutorial appointments with Katie and Alfredo.
Costs:
Four week course: €500 / Includes: Katie and Alfredo’s workshop, rehearsal space, tutorials, access to photography and video documentation, option to propose performances for the weekends, concession fees for the movement classes.
Katie and Alfredo’s workshop on a daily or weekly basis / €45 per day or €145 per week.
Movement classes / €7 per session / €5 for anyone who is following the course.
Group rates are available. you need to CONTACT Katie and she will work out with you a group discount according to how many people and how much time is involved. This is available for the full four week course or for weeks at a time. Group rates are not available for days at a time.
Registration:
For the four week course you need to CONTACT Katie Duck by email with your motivation for attending the course. It helps if you have a reference as to how you found out about the course and with whom you have performed, danced or played with (music). You will receive an email from Katie accepting you on the four week course with an invitation from Stichting MAGPIE. We can accept a maximum of 15 participants on the four week course.
For Katie and Alfredo’s workshop on a daily or weekly basis you need to CONTACT Katie Duck by email with your motivation to attend the workshop. It is possible to register for Katie and Alfredo’s workshops once the course has begun after July 21 however you may find the workshop is full if you do not book your place in advance. Maximum in the workshop per day is 25 participants.
Payment:
To hold your place on the four week course you need to place your payments into our accounts via internet banking. You can place a deposit in advance and pay the total amount no later than June 1, 2014. Funds placed into the stichting MAGPIE account are not refundable. We will consider your proposals to study with Katie and Alfredo in any of the courses they offer in Amsterdam through out the year with your funds accountable.

Location:
The location for the summer course is the Single studio. It is a large studio space on the second floor of a traditional dutch building in the west of Amsterdam over looking a garden where breaks take place. During the four week summer course the space will be occupied only by the summer course participants and staff. Workshop, movement classes, rehearsal space, Freakatoni witchy weekend performances. Housing in Amsterdam:
Katie will be emailing contacts for housing options in Amsterdam July 22 to August 17 by May 2014. Katie will collect contacts of students who attend academy’s in Amsterdam and sublet their rooms and/or flats over the summer and websites for hostels and further sublets. If you are coming to Amsterdam for the full four week course we suggest you use the option to sublet a room or shared flat. If you are coming to Amsterdam one week or day at a time to attend the workshop, hostels in Amsterdam are cheap and available however you do need to book far in advance.
